The project focused on three areas: optimizing a flexible AI algorithm for tool wear detection through adjustments in image size, network size, and image augmentation; applying these optimizations to detect melt pool areas in laser beam welding cross-sections; and exploring indirect estimation of keyhole depth in laser beam welding using surface roughness measurements, although the initial approach did not yield a useful correlation.
